July 15th, 2018

Twin Cities World Refugee Day 2018 was celebrated with an estimated 1,500 attendees who were immersed in an artistic, culinary, and social experience intended to expand intercultural understanding by building human connections and improving knowledge of immigrant and refugee issues. This was made possible by:

  • 15+ individual donors and corporate, philanthropic, and public sector sponsors
  • 15 performance acts–dance, spoken word, music, and more–comprised primarily of refugee and immigrant artists
  • 40+ local nonprofit organizations, for-profit entities, and talented individuals engaging event goers at an educational resource fair. These range from refugee resettlement agencies and health service providers to refugee artists, entrepreneurs, and activists.
  • 6 local food vendors
  • 10+ vendors supplying equipment, supplies, and technical support to the event
  • 5 external partners who facilitated engaging and educational pop-up activities
  • 30 CAPI staff and 45 volunteers
  • A keynote speaker and three honored refugee community leaders
  • The Mayor of Minneapolis and several candidates for local office who made appearances

Resource Fair

In addition to celebrating the cultures and experiences of Minnesotan refugees, Twin Cities World Refugee Day highlights local organizations dedicated to providing opportunities and improving quality of life for immigrant and refugee communities. We invite such organizations to join us in the celebration as a Resource Fair participant. This year’s resource fair participants include:

Doctors Without Borders
American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa
Lutheran Social Service
Council on American-Islamic Relations
Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Minneapolis
The Center for Victims of Torture
HAP
Karen Organization of Minnesota
Dream Refugee
American Red Cross

and many more!

We will provide organizations with a table and two chairs. Orgs will need to bring their own tent or canopy, if they wish to have one. We encourage organizations to send two or three representatives so they can meet with attendees, and also have time to explore the rest of the event. More than 40 refugee-serving organizations and over 2,000 community members are expected to attend, and we wouldn’t want you to miss out!
